ALL patients are required to bring a current list of medications.  This list of medications is needed for invasive and non-invasive imaging and must be presented at every visit.  This list should include the name of the drug, whether it is a prescription, herbal or over-the-counter drug and the dose and how often the drug is taken.

Below are some of the common preps for patients undergoing radiology studies.
PREPS FOR ULTRASOUND STUDIES
Test Prep
Abdomen NPO 8-10 hours
Aorta NPO 8-10 hours
Renal No prep
Renal Artery NPO 8-10 hours
Pelvic/Transvaginal 32oz. water 1hour prior to test. Hold Bladder.
Thyroid No Prep
Thyroid Biopsy No Aspirin or blood thinners for 5 days before biopsy.
Breast No deoderant
Breast Localization Consult ordering Physician
Testicular No prep
Liver Biopsy Consult ordering Physician
Paracentesis/Thoracentesis Consult ordering Physician
***NPO- Nothing by mouth***

 

Preps for CT Scan
EZ CAT is needed for: CT Abdomen, CT Pelvis
Some Physician offices have EZ CAT in their office, if they do not the patient must come to the Radiology Department to pick up the EZ CAT Prep prior to the day of the test. The instructions will be given to the patient when they pick up the Prep. The Patient can eat a light breakfast or lunch prior to starting the EZ CAT. The Patient CAN NOT eat after the EZ CAT has been started, they must remain NPO.

NO Prep is needed for:

CT Bony Pelvis, CTA Aorta, CTA Renal
CT Patients can take their medication with a little bit of water.

 

Preps for Mammography Testing
If you did not have your last mammogram at the Pottsville Hospital please bring the films/CD of your last mammogram with you to your appointment.
Do not wear any kind of underarm deodorant.

 

Preps for Nuclear Medicine Testing
This testing is a specialty in itself, please consult your ordering physician or call our department directly at 621-5333.

 

Preps for General Radiology
Study Prep
Barium Enema * Patient must pick up a two-day prep kit in the radiology department. Prep must be started 48 hours prior to study.
Upper GI * NPO after midnight
Small Bowel * NPO after midnight
Barium Swallow * NPO after midnight
IVP * Use a laxative after your evening meal and NPO after midnight. Consult ordering Physician
Hysterosalpingogram Patient must be 7- 10 days post menstrual period.
VCUG No Prep

* Patients who are having these tests should not take their medication before the test. Bring medication with you to the hospital.
